Local Housing Strategy 2023 - 2028

Description

Everyone should have a good quality, affordable home that meets their needs where they feel safe. Having this foundation allows us to flourish in other important aspects of life such as our health and education.

South Ayrshire Council is now preparing for the development of the next Local Housing Strategy. This is a five year plan that will identify housing priorities for the local area based on:

evidence gathered,
the views of tenants and residents, and
the views of our many partner organisations.

When complete, the Local Housing Strategy will contain a list of outcomes and actions that Housing Services will work to achieve. The current Local Housing Strategy 2017 - 2022 can be found here on the Council's website.

We’d like to hear your views to help understand housing related issues being experienced by people who live in South Ayrshire. Please provide your comments on the suggested challenges and priorities in the Debates tab below. If you have any proposals about developing the Local Housing Strategy, please share them with us in the Proposals tab. Please add any comments and likes or dislikes to other people’s comments and proposals too.

The Council is also currently conducting a survey to identify specific challenges and priorities experienced in localised areas, by certain age groups, by housing tenure etc. We’d very much like you to complete the survey which can be found here at Local Housing Strategy 2023 - 2028 Survey.

Local Housing Strategy 2023 - 2028

For each of the 10 statements that follow, please indicate if you think it's a housing challenge relevant in South Ayrshire by selecting either: Yes it IS a housing challenge in South Ayrshire; or No it 's NOT a housing challenge in South Ayrshire.

1. Lack of options to downsize or find a larger family home (all tenures)

2. Affordability

3. Shortage of housing and limited affordable housing options including access to the private rented sector

4. Poor condition or quality of existing homes in South Ayrshire

5. A lack of accessible housing for people with health problems or people who are disabled including people who need wheelchair accessible, sheltered housing or adapted housing

6. Fuel poverty and energy efficiency of existing homes

7. Anti-social behaviour and community safety problems

8. Tackling homelessness and reducing the time people spend in temporary accommodation

9. Understanding rights and responsibilities as a tenant, owner or landlord

10. Homes with poor transport connections and limited access to local amenities

1. Increasing housing supply, ensuring that it meets the long term needs and has ready access to local amenities

2. Ensuring local people are able to afford either to buy or rent the type of housing that they need

3. Bringing empty homes back into use

4. Assistance with improving energy efficiency

5. Provision of supported/specialist accommodation for those with particular needs

6. Working with partners to ensure people live in safe, clean and attractive neighbourhoods

7. Preventing homelessness as far as possible and making housing options more accessible to those who may be at risk of homelessness and who are in need of secure housing

8. Reducing the time people spend in temporary accommodation and supporting people to move into settled accommodation as quickly as possible

9. Home owners and private landlords encouraged and supported to plan for and invest in the maintenance of their property

10. Service improvement and development in the private rented sector and appropriately regulated short term rental sector
