The Broadway Cinema Experience

2026-02-19  •  No comments  •  kylemacfarlane290435  •  Place Based Investment Fund

Friends of the Broadway Prestwick want to operate the Broadway for and on behalf of the community for everyone. We want it to be a cinematic living room for the town. A socially inclusive community facility offering accessible, sustainable, and cultural opportunities for all of Prestwick’s citizens, and the Broadway has been on a remarkable journey in the last 12 months.

The iconic front doors have re-opened to a wonderfully immersive and unique indoor visitor attraction, the Broadway Cinema Experience. The original 1,000 capacity auditorium has been revealed once more, with the highlight of the experience being the all-new Broadway Pop-up Museum, curated by heritage experts and volunteers to transport visitors back to the golden age of cinema and the Broadway’s place within it. The foyer now serves as a welcoming information hub and gift shop. The newly constructed ‘projection island’ in the auditorium provides opportunities for workshops, passing the lost art of projecting analogue film on to future generations. And the potential for special events including the return of film has now been unlocked.

Despite this initial success, we are extremely restricted on the potential for the visitor experience due to capacity limitations. With the building in its current state, we are restricted to a maximum of 30 people in the building. To increase this capacity, ensure the Broadway achieves its potential, and brings transformative change to our community in Prestwick, we need to undertake critical health and safety improvements including upgrades to our fire alarm system, fire exit doors, and some strategic roof repairs. All of these works are essential to increasing our capacity of visitors, and our capacity to deliver meaningful change for community, and our project's long-term development. We are shovel ready to deliver an expanded and transformative new visitor attraction for Ayrshire.

a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; } We’re planning an important upgrade to the Dundonald Castle Visitor Centre and Community Hub; one that will make the building warmer, more welcoming, and far more energy‑efficient for everyone who uses it.

The windows in the building are now almost 30 years old, and they’re no longer doing their job properly. With your support, we hope to replace all of the existing glazing with modern, energy‑efficient UPVC double glazing. This is one of the key priorities identified in our recent Building Condition Survey and our long‑term Maintenance & Repair Plan.

What the funding will help us do:

  • Install brand‑new double‑glazed windows throughout the building
  • Keep the Hub cosy in winter and cooler in summer
  • Reduce our energy bills and improve sustainability
  • Create a more comfortable, welcoming space for local residents, community groups, and the thousands of visitors who come to Dundonald Castle every year

Our Community Hub isn’t just a building, it’s a lifeline for many. It’s a warm, safe Cosy Space, a gathering point for local activities, and a friendly place for people who may be feeling isolated or vulnerable. It’s also the gateway for visitors exploring the historic 14th century castle.

This upgrade will help us protect and future‑proof a well‑loved community asset so it can continue to serve Dundonald and beyond for many years to come.

Maybole Castle Escape Room

2026-02-18  •  No comments  •  smnmck  •  Place Based Investment Fund

We would like to purchase a pre-made Escape room that would ideally be installed in Maybole Castle when the rennovations are complete. This would go a long way to allowing our organisation to become sustainable. This would also provide an activitiy that would encourage people who stay outside the area to visit and spend money in other businesses. As this is a ready-made product, the Escape Room could be installed in any venue. We are seeking a lease agreement on Maybole Castle but this is ongoing.

centenary year clubhouse upgrade

2026-02-12  •  No comments  •  Maybole memorial park bowling club  •  Place Based Investment Fund

Over the years parts of the building has fallen into a state of disrepair, this has been highlighted by members of the club and members of various community groups.

We would like to apply for funding to upgrade the clubhouse and make the facilities more attractive for members of the club and the wider community. Essentially we are starting to think about future proofing the club so that it can continue to exist well into the future. Funding is needed to repair the roof and replace windows and also to replace the front door. By replacing the windows, it will help assist us with reducing our heating bill.

GoGirvan Headquarters & Community Hub Refurbishment & Fitout

We have leased a property on Dalrymple Street to act as our Headquarters: Office, Shop and Community Hub. We need to have the shop front painted and a hard-wearing laminate floor laid in the main body of the premises that can handle a lot of foot traffic for years to come, while also acting as a form of insulation to decrease our heating bills and carbon footprint. This funding will allow us to do the work and also fitout the premises to a high standard, ready to welcome the community and our staff.

Prestwick Tennis and Fitness - Construction of Covered Padel Tennis Court

2026-02-17  •  No comments  •  Prestwick Tennis and Fitness  •  Place Based Investment Fund

PT&F is looking to construct a covered Padel tennis court within the grounds of its indoor tennis centre in Prestwick. The provision of a covered court means that Padel tennis can be more available to the local community in any weather throughout the whole of the year. We see the introduction of Padel as an excellent fit to complement our current tennis offering.  We have planning permission in place, and we are currently in the process of raising sufficient funds to enable to project to go-ahead.

The cost of the construction of a covered Padel tennis court is £210,000 (including VAT) and to date we have raised £45,000 from the Lawn Tennis Association (loan), £10,000 from NRS (grant) and a £70,000 from Sportscotland (grant).   The club will be contributing £10,000 and we have applications submitted to The Stanley Morrison Trust (£15,000 grant) and Social Enterprise Scotland (£20,000 Loan).  We therefore currently have a funding gap of £40,000 which we are looking to be provided through the Place Based Investment Fund to complete our funding requirements.

The additional income from the new padel facility will support our drive to make return our organisation to financial stability following trading difficulties in recent years resulting from loss of membership during the Covid pamdemic, and other financial pressures since then including the cost of living crisis and significant overhead increases (eg utility bills, NI costs, living wage increases)
