In relation to the identified priorities in the Guidance & Essential criteria what will your idea achieve and who will benefit from your project?

The project will support civic and community pride by creating a positive photographic record of Girvan’s people, working life and coastal community identity. The project celebrates Girvan’s people and community through free portraits, a public exhibition and online gallery that promote local pride and positive coastal identity.

Please describe what you plan to do and what the money will be used for? (i.e., purchase equipment/resources)

I plan to deliver a community photography project titled Portraits of Girvan: People, Work and Community.

The project will create a professional photographic record of local people who contribute to the character, working life and community identity of Girvan and the surrounding coastal area. This may include independent traders, volunteers, hospitality workers, older residents, young people, community figures and people involved in local organisations.

The funding will be used for project planning, community engagement, portrait photography sessions, editing and preparation of the final images, exhibition printing and mounting, participant thank you prints, basic promotional materials and preparation of an online gallery.

Participants will take part free of charge. The finished project will be shared through a public exhibition and online gallery, helping to celebrate Girvan’s coastal identity, strengthen civic pride and create a positive visual record of the people who make the town distinctive.

Location: The project will affect Girvan and the wider Girvan and District coastal community. The photography will be delivered in Girvan, with portraits taking place either at GJD Photography’s studio, in local workplaces, community spaces, or other relevant locations connected to the participants. The public exhibition will be based in Girvan, with an online gallery allowing the wider community to view and share the finished work. The proposal is not tied to one piece of land or property. It is a community photography project focused on the people, working life and coastal identity of Girvan.
