Coastal Communities Anxiety Awareness and Support Campaign
In relation to the identified priorities in the Guidance & Essential criteria what will your idea achieve and who will benefit from your project?
The project will initially be delivered in Ayr, including Newton-on-Ayr, benefiting residents of these South Ayrshire coastal communities who experience anxiety, worry or overwhelm, alongside their families and carers. Printed information and practical handouts will be offered through local businesses and community organisations that agree to participate. Materials will link residents to AAI’s free online tools and appropriate support information, while also providing useful guidance for people who prefer printed resources. Distribution will focus on a manageable local area, with wider circulation to Prestwick and Troon where suitable distribution points can be secured within the project budget and available capacity.
Please describe what you plan to do and what the money will be used for? (i.e., purchase equipment/resources)
Anxiety Aid International is seeking £3,000 for an anxiety awareness and support campaign for residents of South Ayrshire’s coastal communities. Printed distribution will initially focus on Ayr and Newton-on-Ayr, extending to Prestwick and Troon where suitable distribution points can be secured. Funding will support printed flyers, practical self-help handouts, posters, reusable outreach materials and geographically targeted Facebook advertising.
The materials will provide clear information about anxiety, simple coping strategies and website details and QR codes linking to anxietyaidinternational.org. AAI’s free online tools can be accessed without an appointment, account or payment. Printed guidance will also support residents who prefer paper or face barriers to digital access.
The campaign follows advice from Audrey at VASA to increase awareness of the charity and its available support. We will approach local businesses and community organisations for permission to display and distribute materials. Facebook activity will complement this by reaching coastal residents who may not visit those locations. The project will not depend on delivering workshops or individual appointments.
The main risks are limited delivery capacity, low engagement, rising printing costs and information becoming outdated. The Founder will coordinate phased distribution, confirm suitable locations before ordering quantities, check supplier prices and review content before printing. Paid advertising will have a fixed spending limit, with performance reviewed before further spending. Materials will accurately describe current services and distinguish AAI’s support from emergency and clinical care.
For long-term sustainability, reusable designs and outreach materials will remain available after the campaign. Links will direct residents to a central website where information can be updated. We will record quantities distributed, participating locations, feedback and digital engagement where available to assess reach and improve future activity. Further printing and advertising will depend on available funding, and the project will create no ongoing staffing or venue commitments.
