Ayr United Football Academy will deliver the United Girls Summer of Sport Pathway, a free programme designed to increase participation in football among girls and young women, with a particular focus on those living in Ayr North (KA8).
The project will begin with a week-long summer football camp during the final week of the school holidays, engaging up to 100 girls and young women in a fun, safe and inclusive environment. This will be followed by 20 weeks of free one-hour weekly sessions, creating a clear pathway into sustained participation, improved wellbeing and progression into AUFA’s girls’ teams and wider community football opportunities.
The funding requested will cover the core delivery costs of the programme, including facility hire (£1,000), qualified coaching staff (£1,746) and equipment and kit (£250), giving a total project cost of £2,998.50.
Delivery will take place at Somerset Park and local community venues, ensuring the programme is accessible to those who face barriers due to poverty, transport or limited local opportunities. In addition to football sessions, participants and families will receive information on other local sporting opportunities and volunteering and coach development pathways for parents, carers and young adults.
The programme aims to tackle inequality, reduce isolation and build confidence, while creating lasting opportunities for girls and young women to be active, connected and inspired through sport.
