28th Ayrshire (Troon) Scouts - Camp Kit Enhancement Initiative

2025-06-05  •  1 comment  •  28thScouts  •  Prestwick, Troon & Villages

Through this project, we aim to enrich the lives of young people by providing access to exciting outdoor adventures and meaningful experiences they might not otherwise have. From single overnight stays to archery, abseiling, hill walking, paddleboarding, and orienteering, these activities nurture vital life skills—teamwork, leadership, resilience, and confidence—that will serve them well into adulthood.

Crucially, spending time outdoors and away from screens plays a powerful role in supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Our activities offer a much-needed break from the pressures of school, social media, and daily life, creating a safe, positive space where they can grow, connect, and recharge emotionally.

With over 200 young people in our group, the addition of new leader tents will enable us to expand camps and overnight experiences year-round. This will allow more young people to benefit from regular time in nature, all within safe and well-supported environments.

Our adult leaders also gain, building their confidence and skills as they share knowledge and experience. Everyone involved benefits from the outdoors, strengthening mental wellbeing and community connection.

Thanks to our strengthened team, we’re now able to offer more overnight camping experiences—vital opportunities for young people to develop essential Skills for Life such as resilience, teamwork, and independence.

To make these nights away possible, we urgently need four new leader tents. Each tent will accommodate up to 12 adults on monthly trips, enabling at least 144 adult nights away per year. More importantly, this improved infrastructure will allow us to double the number of young people we can safely support on each camp—adding 240 youth nights away annually.  Without these new tents, our capacity will be restricted, limiting the number of young people who can benefit from these valuable nights' away experiences.

Funding will go directly towards purchasing these leader tents, enabling more young people to enjoy meaningful outdoor adventures. Your support will help us deliver transformative experiences in nature, inspire future leaders, and build a stronger, more confident generation.

Friends of Dundonald Castle - Community Hub Upgrades

2025-06-12  •  1 comment  •  FriendsofDundonaldCastle  •  Prestwick, Troon & Villages

We plan to use the funding to upgrade our existing lighting system to a more energy-efficient solution. This upgrade will reduce our energy consumption, lower our utility costs, and support our goal of operating a more sustainable community hub.

Our charity previously secured ARIA funding to conduct a comprehensive Building Condition Survey. Based on the findings, the surveyor recommended improvements to both our heating and lighting systems.

Using a local installer, we have already completed the heating system upgrade. This proposed lighting upgrade represents the next phase of our improvements. The need for this lighting improvement is also an outstanding action on our Asset Maintenance Register.

By lowering our operational costs through these upgrades, we will be able to redirect the savings into expanding and supporting the wide range of clubs, activities, and events we offer to our community. Last year, we welcomed over 29,010 users to our community hub and now run 12 free regular community groups and an annual programme of community and family activities. The hub also acts as the cosy, safe, and welcoming space for the village and surrounding area all year round.

Alloway Railway Tunnel ART

2025-05-31  •  17 comments  •  Alloway Railway Tunnel ART SCIO  •  Ayr South & Villages

The objective is to create, and then manage, an inclusive community project which will create a stunning art installation within the old railway tunnel at the Brig O’ Doon, Alloway, Ayr. Our objectives include the advancement of education (community involvement in the creation of art-works and heritage films on active-travel paths); community development by engaging people of all ages; school-pupils; students; youth and older groups and other interested individuals in the creative process; the advancement of the arts, heritage and culture by engaging people’s interest in art and developing their artistic abilities; and for this particular project – bringing to life through art Ayrshire’s culture, heritage and social history, and improving the conditions of life through the creation of a multi-purpose community venue. The tunnel has been cleaned of the offending graffiti and the mural is being installed in four separate stages as funding is raised. As of April 2025 the first three stages have been completed and the mural hung with the involvement of several schools, colleges and community groups working with Thriving Communities on an outreach basis. In addition, young people are making short films which visitors to the mural can access via QR codes to see and hear the real stories being depicted on the mural. We are now seeking funding for the final stage of the mural which will include the further involvement of local schools and community groups.

We are applying for £2,000 towards the costs of materials, primarily the plywood boards on which the artwork is painted, to allow us to complete final stage of the project.

Overmills Allotment Rain Water Collection System

2025-05-30  •  No comments  •  Jobo88  •  Ayr North

To enhance Overmills Allotment’s self-sufficiency, we seek funding to build a platform for rainwater tanks, link them to guttering on compost bays, and connect the tanks for efficient water use.

Here's a clear breakdown of what the funding will be spent on for the rainwater collection project at Overmills Allotment:

Timber and building materials – For constructing a durable and level platform to support the water tanks.

Water storage tanks – Purchasing additional rainwater collection tanks.

Guttering and downpipes – To divert rainwater from compost bay roofs into the tanks.

Connectors and fittings – For linking the tanks together and ensuring a smooth water flow.

Fixings and brackets – To securely attach guttering and plumbing components.

Tools and equipment hire – Any specialist tools required for installation.

Safety gear and signage – Ensuring safe working practices during construction.

Volunteer support costs – Refreshments or small provisions for community volunteers helping with the build.

Light Up Loans (Christmas Event)

2025-06-12  •  1 comment  •  Loans Gala Committee  •  Prestwick, Troon & Villages

We would like to bring back the popular ‘Light Up Loans’ event, which hasn’t run in the village since before covid. This Christmas event brought the whole village together to sing carols and enjoy refreshments before counting down to the switch on of the Christmas lights.

We would also like to have a lovely tree within the village hall which would be lit up and on display for any events held in the hall during December.  Part of this project would be to offer local people at the Light Up Loans event to purchase a tree bauble that they decorate in memory of a loved one or with a special Christmas message.  The monies generated from this would be used for future years to replenish baubles, replace lights and decorations as required.

We’re looking to apply for funding to cover the costs of an outdoor Christmas tree (purchase, delivery and installation/removal), an indoor tree,  lights and decorations for both, baubles to personalise and refreshments for on the night.

Outdoor Christmas tree - £700

Indoor Christmas tree - £330

Lights and decorations - £300

Ceramic baubles to personlise - £200

Refreshments for event - £100

Total - £1630

Maybole Food Pantry – Food distribution costs (packaging)

2025-06-05  •  No comments  •  Tanina  •  North & South Carrick

We plan to use the funding to support the Maybole Food Pantry by purchasing essential distribution materials, including vacuum packaging, kraft paper bags, and labels. These resources will allow us to safely and effectively package a variety of surplus and donated food items, helping us maintain hygiene standards and improve the overall presentation and durability of the food parcels we provide. The funding will ensure that we can continue to meet the growing demand for food support in the local area, reduce food waste, and deliver a dignified and reliable service to individuals and families facing food insecurity due to the rising cost of living.
