Being awarded funding to open our studio space will align with UK Shared Prosperity Fund’s goals by strengthening the resilience of our community through creative learning and reducing isolation in our communities by bringing people together in a space that they can take ownership of. By providing accessible and affordable quality arts and entertainment we will be tackling inequalities and improving life chances for people living in our community and beyond

The Iris currently delivers creative learning workshops where people can learn how to express themselves and have their voices heard about things that matter to them by learning how to create film and theatre. By teaching people living in our community creative writing and film productions skills, we can empower people to learn and help them to improve their mental health. The Iris is a multi-award winning production company, having produced 100s of creative learning pieces with people living in our community since 2019. By having a studio space open we can empower the community to create more, bring more people together and access free or reduced cost creative learning and entertainment.

We rely soleley on donations and fundraising and over the past few years we have struggled with providing fred bags for older children.  We often put games into these bags as this is something which older children enjoy but we find that we dont have as many donations of these as we would like.  The funding would be to purchase as many boardgames as possible and our team of volunteers would then be able to use these for the bags for older children.

£2000 will pay for 10 refurbished bikes, to be supplied by our CGX Cycle Works as capital assets costing £200 each to be donated free of charge to individuals.  CGX Cycle Works has recently completed two successive years producing 400 refurbished bikes to issue free of charge to young people across South Ayrshire.  The Cycling Scotland recognised cost of a refurbished bike exceeds £250, with the additional costs of storing and distributing them to recipients further exceeding that, all being regarded as elements of the total capital cost to achieve the transfer of ownership of the capital asset.  During distribution of the bikes to children, many of the parents asked about the availability of free bikes so they could go on rides with their children.  We hope to meet this identified need.

The project’s long-term vision for heritage preservation is the creation of a fully accredited museum of Scottish cinemas, with the Broadway’s heritage collections already extensive and featuring a varied catalogue of original features, equipment, and preserved memories from both the Broadway, and other cinemas across Ayrshire and Scotland. To continue to capture these memories, an extensive oral history project is planned to be developed by an official filmmaker of the project. This project will ensure recollections of the golden age of cinema in Scotland are preserved for future generations. There is currently no public museum to cinema in the country, despite Scotland once having the highest rate of cinema-going in Europe, and Art Deco cinemas remaining an integral part of our cultural and built heritage today.

This funding will support the acquisition of professional museum exhibit displays, including plinths, glass cabinets, and exhibit labels. These items are essential to ensuring that the museum will deliver a safe viewing environment for visitors whilst protecting and preserving the culturally important items in the exhibits, many of which are fragile and require the correct storage conditions. The items that will be purchased will be utilised in the museum project long-term and continue to serve in showcasing the Broadway’s collections for the foreseeable future as the heritage project continues to grow and expand

This funding would allow Vics to purchase furniture for our community Hub, the hub is due to open at the end of July and we are required to purchase furnitire including tables, chairs and fixtures and fittings to make the place somewhere the community feel proud of. The focus has been the capital works to get the pavilion ready and we now need furniture for inside the hub area. to help offer activities. 

We plan to revitalise Prestwick Community Hall to create a more welcoming, accessible, and versatile space for local residents of all ages. The funding will be used to purchase essential decorating materials (such as matt and gloss paint, brushes, sealant, and fillers), timber for minor repairs, and laminate flooring to improve our upstairs meeting room.

A key part of the project is the installation of heavy, full-length blackout curtains around the main hall. These will dramatically improve the sound quality during live music events and performances by reducing echo and enhancing acoustics. The curtains will also enable us to host daytime shows, film screenings, and community events that require light control.

These upgrades will allow us to expand our programme of activities and attract a broader range of users — from Pensioners, youth groups and adult learners to music performers, social clubs, and family-friendly events. This funding will help us transform the hall into a vibrant, inclusive hub at the heart of Prestwick's community life.
