Following extensive community consultation, we plan to deliver three evening groups at Dundonald Castle Hub: a Silent Book Club, Dundonald Historical & Archive Group, and a Creative Writing Group. Funding will be used towards staffing and utilities to help our charity open the Hub in the evenings, and to ensure the ongoing sustainability of these groups. This will support us in providing free, accessible activities for people of all ages with daytime commitments (carer, parental and employment amongst others), while tackling loneliness and social isolation over the autumn and winter months in our rural area.

Senior Primary Schools (P7) Careers Fair
2025-09-01 • No comments • • Coastal Communities Fund 2024/25
P7 pupils from 9 schools, prioritising those with a catchment area serving the most deprived and poorest areas of Ayr, will be transported to Ayr town Hall where representatives of between 30 and 35 widely different careers have been invited for the day. The reps have been selected as they are known to be enthusiastic about the work they do, are great communicators, and in the majority of cases, have asked to return after previously been involved in the Project over the last 2 years.
The Career stalls are designed to be highly interactive and "Hands-0n"; we are not telling the pupils what grades they need and what college of course they need to aim for (this is done at Secondary school by careers teachers); we want to inspire them, encourage them to think beyond what they think they might end up doing when they leave school. We believe this will motivate them as they start secondary school in a few months after the event. All the Careers reps give up a day, all in their own time, some self employed. Rotarians are on hand to help the teachers supervise the children on the day.
Funding is used for Hire of the Venue (Ayr Town Hall - £250), Hire of the buses to transport the pupils (£850), and a light sandwich lunch and refreshments for the 60 to 70 Careers Reps who will be attending (£300 which Rotary will Fund)

The Coastal Communities Fund intervention will allow Dunure and Fisherton to select and recruit expertise in cultural, heritage and history management and interpretation.
They will help us initiate the process of engaging with and encouraging the participation of residents to think about, catalogue and manage their own artefacts, objects, photos, pictures, newscuttings and stories relating to the village.
The fund will allow us to appoint a heritage specialist and provide equipment to allow volunteers to work alongside and collect historical information for display to visitors and enable volunteers to provide information for guided tours arounf the heritage of the village.

Dementia Friendly Launch Event of the Alloway Railway Tunnel Mural
2025-09-10 • No comments • • Coastal Communities Fund 2024/25
- We have completed two out of four stages of the mural art project, and we require additional funding towards paying our artist fees and materials to enable us to complete the Stage 3 of the mural by March 2026.
- We want to continue our community engagement and raise the awareness of the ART mural to the Ayrshire community. We wish to do this by linking with a local community group, Dementia Friendly, Prestwick. Their members have previously got involved in the project by painting part of the mural. Now we want to develop our relationship with them by arranging a special event to launch their artwork: Dementia Friendly Guided Tour so they can see their work installed in the mural and experience this arts project and feel valued and included in their community. We will learn from this inaugral event and in the future be able to offer more dementia friendly guided walks in the tunnel for older people in the wider South Ayrshire community.
The funding will pay for:
- Transport to bring participants and their carers to/from Alloway.
- Tour guide from ‘Tasting History Ayrshire Tours’ who will plan, organise and lead the tour which will involve storytelling from ‘Agnes Burns’ character, recitals of poems and musical performances from local musicians.
- Refreshments in the tunnel and at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum
- Printed information sheets acting as a visual anchor for the dementia group participants.

Purchase of scout hall land, 48th Ayrshire Dundonald Scout Group
2025-09-11 • No comments • • Coastal Communities Fund 2024/25
Dundonald is a vibrant rural village in South Ayrshire with a strong sense of community, but like many small settlements, it faces challenges around access to wellbeing services, social isolation, and opportunities for intergenerational connection. The redevelopment of the Scout group property into a Community Wellbeing Hub will provide a much-needed inclusive space for residents of all ages. It could support those experiencing loneliness, mental health challenges, and digital exclusion—particularly older adults, young people, and those living in more remote parts of the village. The project will strengthen community ties, promote healthier lifestyles, and create new opportunities for volunteering, learning, and social interaction, helping Dundonald thrive as a resilient and connected coastal community.
We plan to purchase the building (through asset transfer) from South Ayrshire Council and then redevelopment the Scout Hall to support two key outcomes:
· Promoting good mental health and wellbeing
· Tackling social isolation and loneliness
The building will be designed to offer:
· A calm, inclusive environment where individuals feel safe, respected, and supported.
· A venue for the community to offer counselling, peer support groups, and wellbeing workshops.
· Space for preventative activities such as yoga, mindfulness, creative arts, and physical exercise.
· Opportunities for co-design and community involvement, fostering a sense of ownership, belonging, and empowerment.
The building could also serve as a hub in the future to:
· Host informal social spaces for conversation, shared meals, and spontaneous interaction.
· Deliver intergenerational programmes that bring together people of all ages.
· Create volunteering opportunities, helping individuals build purpose and community ties.
· Provide digital inclusion support, including Wi-Fi access, devices, and skills training to help people stay connected.
