Investment project code: 55

Estimated Price

£2,000

In relation to the identified priorities in the Guidance & Essential criteria what will your idea achieve and who will benefit from your project?

Our main project priority is financial inclusion. We hope to be able to cover the cost of a daily snack for ALL of the children in Ballantrae Primary School. This will help with the cost of living for the families of 55 children in school.

Please describe what you plan to do and what the money will be used for? (i.e., purchase equipment/resources)

The parent Council of Ballantrae Primary school wish to provide a daily, healthy snack for every child in the school.  We have helped to part cover the cost of this for sessions 2024/2025 and the school have reported positive feedback.  Not only does this help with the rising cost of living for ALL of the families, it also ensures that the children are given a healthy snack and get into good habits of eating well.  Providing a snack in school, as an altertnative to bringing in a snack from home, has seen a significant reduction in litter in the school and surrounding area.  Snack provision also means that children can sit in social situations whilst eating, promoting equity and inclusion.  The older children in the school are given the chance to help make the snack which encourages responsibility and purpose.

The Parent Council actively seek funds through raffles, quizes, clothes sales etc. However, as a small community, we do not make large enough totals to cover the school snack for the full year.  Snack is calculated at £2 per child, per week and we wish to fund this for the 38 weeks of the school year.  The total for the year is £4180,  so the funding we are asking for would part fund our project.  We will try and cover the remining balance by continuing to fundraise throughout the school year.

This funding would have such a positive impact on the children and families of Ballantrae Primary School.
